The 3^rd Annual Mountain Maryland Museum Week, June 7-16. Mountain Maryland Museum Week is a 10-day promotion celebrating Allegany County, the Mountain Side of Maryland’s three centuries of American history. We invite you to travel back in time as you explore our museum attractions and history and heritage-focused experiences celebrating America’s early transportation milestones as told in our rivers, rails, trails, mountains, and towns. The Garden Club of Cumberland Annual Garden Tour – Local Cumberland Gardens, Saturday, June 22, 9 am – 2 pm, Tickets – $6/person. Tickets available from club members and at gardens on day of tour, as well as, The Book Center, 15 N. Centre Street, Downtown Dollar and Eby’s Garden Center.

Cumberland Pride Festival – The festival will be held on Sunday, June 30 at Canal Place in downtown Cumberland. The festival will be from 12 – 4 pm and filled with music, drag performances, and unity in our community. We will have limited vendors with priority for our LGBTQ+ members for booth/table space at this year’s celebration.

4^th of July Potomac Concert Band and Fireworks – 8:30 – 10:30 pm, Potomac Concert Band performs on the stage at Canal Place on the festival grounds during the annual firework display. Open to the public at no charge. Bring a chair or blanket. Family-friendly event.

PharmaCare West – The price of a first-class stamp will go from 68 cents to 73 cents beginning Sunday, July 14^th. Stop by the U.S. post office, located inside PharmaCare West, to buy your Forever stamps before the rate hike. The beautiful mountains of Western Maryland present an excellent opportunity for our shelter dogs to experience the joy of a long walk, hike or run in many of the area’s scenic locations. Are you looking for something more low-key? No problem. We have many pups that would enjoy an afternoon lounging on a couch, a stroll through the neighborhood, or maybe a trip for ice cream. AHEC West – Free HIV/HCV Testing every Monday, 9 am – 2 pm at the Possibility Shop, 138 Baltimore Street. Know your status!

The AHEC West Health Insurance Program opened an outreach center in Cumberland at 138 Baltimore Street, Suite 100, called “The Possibility Shop.” Located near the Union Rescue Mission, the shop offers space for other agencies and programs to provide services to vulnerable populations they might not otherwise reach. Thirteen organizations offer 21 programs from the Shop, including the Allegany County Health Department, Horizon Goodwill, HRDC, Maryland Coalition of Families, Maryland Wellness, Mountain Laurel Medical Center, Maryland Physicians Care, Aetna Better Health, Western Maryland Food Bank, and County United Way AHEC West offers three programs at the site.

A wide range of services includes a small food pantry, clothing, hygiene supplies, outdoor gear, phones, and bottled water. Harm reduction programs offer clean needle exchange and testing for Hep C and HIV. Visitors are also provided connections to mental health services, Peer support, health insurance assistance, and other health and social services screenings. The Shop has also hosted expungement clinics to clear old criminal records.

Gilchrist Gallery Every 2nd Saturday morning of the month throughout 2023, Gilchrist Gallery will host yoga and sound healing at 9:30 am with Paula Reeves. The entrance is donation-based; attendees are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, blanket, and water.

Led by AHEC West, Healing Allegany is a consortium of healthcare, law enforcement, and social service agencies serving Allegany County and numerous volunteer supporters. The consortium is working to improve treatment for opioid misuse, address community and internal stigma associated with addiction, and reduce illness and death related to opioid misuse. 2024 Complete Season Details

• Yes And/In Bob We Trust by Andrew Nicholls. This weekend will be your last chance to see two fabulous – and very funny – one act plays at the Embassy Theatre.  Don’t miss out! “Yes And…” by Andrew Nicholls. The lead, Ellie, played by Maddy Painter, is a free-spirited actress learning improv. Her husband, Craig, (Jack Tabb) is an anxious, by-the-book businessman. Craig sleeps in and is very late for work. He asks Ellie to cover for him, so she calls the office, tells them he’s on his way, and improvises a cover story. Later that week, the couple hosts Craig’s boss, Karen (Mel Rice), and her wife, Rosalind (Danise Whitlock), for dinner. During after-dinner drinks, Rosalind and Ellie start talking about the “robbery” that was Ellie’s cover story, and the tale grows more complicated by the minute.  “Yes And . . . ” is directed by Kirk Squires. “In Bob We Trust”, which Nicholls wrote with collaborator Darrell Vickers, received its world premiere on the Embassy stage on Thursday, June 3. The title character in “In Bob We Trust” is a man with passion for collecting vinyl records. Bob (Luke Raible) decides to take his hobby to the next level and open a record shop, despite protests from his wife (Mel Rice) who is miserable at her own job. Bob invites his in-laws (Trish Morgan and Adam Swayne) over for dinner to share the wonderful news. Hilarity ensues as the in-laws believe the young couple are expecting a child, not opening a record store.
